The NOSTALGIA Collection is the trading name of Silver Link Publishing Ltd.
Silver Link was formed in Carnforth, Lancashire, England and published its first book in 1985. The company soon moved to St. Michaels on Wyre and continued to develop titles on a range of subjects including : railways, maritime, road transport and local titles based on Cumbria and The Lake District. Amongst early titles were the following:
- British Railways Past and Present No 1 Cumbria
- Portrait of a Ship Builder - Barrow Built Vessels
- Raymond Sankey's South Cumbria Past and Present
- Maritime Heritage: Barrow and Morecambe Bay
In November 1990 Silver Link was sold to the current owners and moved from St. Michaels on Wyre to Great Addington in Northamptonshire. At this time the company had thirteen titles in print and a growing number under development. Titles available at the time included:
- British Railways Past and Present No 6 Cheshire and North Wales
- Freightfax
- Freight Only Yearbook
- City of Truro a Locomotive Legend
- A Nostalgic Look at Leeds Trams
The British Railways Past and Present series was developing rapidly and the original concept of a series of books that would eventually cover the entire country began to move towards a realistic prospect. In 1992 the company moved a short distance to Wadenhoe, an idyllic village on the banks of The River Nene. The company very much enjoyed village life and shared in the activities of the village - including the annual raft race in which the Silver Link raft became 'The one to beat' for a number of years! Over the years the company had developed quite a following amongst enthusiasts for a number of subjects on which the company had by now published books. The range had by now broadened to include:
- Road Transport - Trams, Buses, Trolleybuses, Cars etc
- Railways
- Rivers and Inland Waterways
- Maritime
- Towns and Cities
The demand for the Silver Link Catalogue had grown steadily, with over 30,000 copies of each issue being distributed. The catalogue is sent all over the world with Australia, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Japan amongst the many countries showing an increasing interest in the nostalgia of Britain. Recognising the increasing interest in the Silver Link range amongst the wider population, and the fact that nostalgia and transport tend to go hand in hand, the decision was made to launch The NOSTALGIA Collection. This coincided with a move back to Great Addington and a new office in 1998.
Since then the new NOSTALGIA Collection branding has been progressively applied to new books, reprints and new editions. The distinctive branding makes books from The NOSTALGIA Collection easy to recognise and easier to find when stocked in retail outlets.
