Model railway layouts do not have to be on a large scale to be satisfying and rewarding. These are the beliefs held by Trevor Booth. Here he shares his vast experience in presenting ideas to accommodate a layout whereby it's necessary to strike a compromise between reality and practicality. His eye for authentic detail and atmosphere combine to bring the layout to life, from the baseboard upwards. Furthermore, these are not principles set in stone. They are merely a guide as to possible methods of construction, with the modeller given a free rein for adaptation or incorporation of his own beliefs and ideas. If one's budget is as tight as the space in which to build, the author refers to and endorses the use of second hand material from reputable dealers.
