The first in a number of forthcoming new additions to the highly acclaimed Silver Link Library of Railway Modelling series. This volume takes a detailed look at the Great Western Railway and how to recreate the magic of the famous Brunswick Green in model form. Using both prototype and selected models, the author provides sample layouts, constuction techniques, background information and insights into how to recreate that all important atmosphere.
This book was first published in 1990 and received much acclaim as a concise guide for those aspiring to model the Great Western Railway or its successor, British Railways Western Region. The original dust jacket contained the following quote from no less a source than the Great Western Society at Didcot, ‘an invaluable guide to modelling this much loved company, and a fine potted history as well’.
There has been much change in the intervening twelve years, not least the continued development of exciting new models particularly ready to run OO gauge and there has also been a rapid growth in the interest and consequently the number of products for O gauge. Neither could have been be anticipated back in 1990. The growth of detailed treatise on the Great Western and republishing of books long out of print continues to show that interest in the GWR shows little sign of diminishing.
We thought at Silver Link therefore that it was time the book reappeared and so the editorial team has updated the text and pictures from the original PSL publication but it remains largely as written back in 1990. We hope you find it a useful ‘ready reference’ to the Great Western and its successor.
