There were once two railwaymen from Liverpool who began their working lives on the railway in the 1950s, during the twilight of steam. John Corkill and Peter Hanson both loved steam locomotives, and fortunately they photographed many of them - mostly in the North West, but also elsewhere, from Scotland to the Isle of Wight - before steam finally disappeared in 1968. The result was a wealth of historic photographs, brought together in this classic volume of 200-plus photographs - many previously unpublished - which vividly captures the romance and atmosphere of an age that has long gone.' |
