The industrial heart of England was created here, Ironbridge is now transformed into a mecca for those wishing to explore the very roots of the Industrial Revolution. The Railways of Shropshire reflect both the valuable role played in the development of Britain's industries while also passing through idylic countryside. The county town of Shrewsbury remains a focal point on the railway network, however as the past pictures show it is somewhat scaled down from its halcyon days. While many lines have closed Shropshire has seen much positive railway development on more recent years, particularly in the development of Telford one of Britain's new towns. Wellington, Ludlow, Wem, Newport and Market Drayton are but a few further examples of the many locations covered in this fine volume of contrasting views. Preservationists are also at work in the county and perhaps in the future we will see the reinstatement of closed routes. Shropshire then is probably one of the most diverse areas covered to date in this series and will prove a popular addition to the series.
